Introducing Muse Branding

It's finally here. It’s been really hard keeping such a big secret under wraps for so long, but I’m finally ready to share the good news with you all! Today is the day I launch my new design studio, Muse Branding. In addition to The Honey Press and handkerchiefs, I am a freelance graphic designer. About eight months ago ( or so ), I came to the bittersweet realization that working under my own name was limiting. Being that I want to expand beyond myself, it was clear that something new was needed to create a base for growth. So that’s where I am right now, at the starting line of something completely fresh. It took me months and months to settle on a name, but this one feels right. I am acting as muse to my clients, and each of my client's unique businesses' act as an inspiring muse to me. As I forge my own creative journey each and everyday, I trust that I’m on the right path. Muse Branding is a journey not only for myself, but for the clients I work with as well. That’s the best part.

I'm not there

‘I’m Not There’ by Pol Úbeda Hervàs is a series of images that displays Hervàs looking at his own shadow. Though the man has been removed from the pictures and all that is left is a pair of sneakers and a dark shape. Hervàs was inspired to shoot this series as he said: ‘I don’t recognize myself any more.’ He leaves the sneakers in the images to remind the viewer that there is still a man somewhere behind the shadow.

Rooms from Above

German photographer Menno Aden's Room Portraits series reevaluates the structure of a room by presenting an aerial perspective that typically flattens the three-dimensional space, reversing the effects of construction. This act of taking a real room and photographically reverting its appearance into a stylized blueprint offers insight into not only the size and shape of the area, but the type of person who dwells or works within the space.
Aden's intention with the works are to draw attention to the voyeuristic society we live in that is further perpetuated by pop culture. We are all like peeping Tom's with a bird's eye view, looking down at these intimate and personal spaces of people we don't know. There is a sense of intrigue, trying to soak in every visible detail presented in the images, and then quick shift is made to assessing and forming judgements based solely on the visual cues.

Mario Testino

This weekend we were lucky enough to visit Boston's Museum of Fine Art to see Mario Testino's  "In Your Face" exhibit. It was a provocative inside look at some of today's most elusive and exclusive subjects through the lens of renowned fashion and portrait photographer and Vogue and Vanity Fair contributor Mario Testino. Known for the elegance, beauty, style, irreverence and contradiction of his images, Testino gives a career retrospective arranged in compelling visual stories. These images capture the interplay of mass media, celebrity and glamour, and offer a new understanding of his influence and aesthetic contributions to fashion and photography.
